A high level conference on Key Benefits and Advantages for Corporations to Appoint Independent Board Directors has been held on 5th of July of this year in Tbilisi upon initiative of Independent Directors' Association and with support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. The conference focused on ways to enhance the corporate governance in local companies, including examining a true meaning of the concept of independent director in that context, assessing recent changes to the laws of relevance and discussing venues on promoting the national management standards in accountable entities.
Various Georgian and international high-ranking officials gave their speeches at the event among those being the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, the EBRD Director for Caucasus, Moldova and Belarus, the EBRD senior counsel, the Governor for the National Bank of Georgia, heads of certain parliamentary committees and leading Georgian companies.
Victor Kipiani, partner at Mgaloblishvili Kipiani Dzidziguri and board member of Independent Directors' Association took part as a member of the panel and presented an assessment of current status of legislative changes and some practical considerations around such changes.
